There is a Time

It has been over a month since my last post. A month! And I have the type of personality to beat myself up over this. In fact when I had to take a hiatus from writing due to health reasons, I did mentally beat myself up. But, God has been telling me something. Me as a wife, as a mom, as a teacher, and as a writer. All at the same time.

Some of you reading this are very familiar with the nomadic lifestyle. One which I have been a part of, well, my entire life really. But, for the past 12 years it’s been due to my husband’s job. And it’s that time again. Time to pack up and move across the country. Which really puts a wrench in things.

But, three weeks ago I taught my Sunday School class about seasons. I read my class of  6,7,and 8 year old kids Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV).

3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Little did I know those words weren’t just meant for those little ones, but for me also. And I’m guessing for you. And not just right now, but in every season.

Right now God is reminding me that this is a time to focus on packing up our life in the southwest and to get ready for our life in the northeast. It’s a time to focus on finishing out the school year strong, not letting us fizzle into homeschool oblivion. It’s a time to make sure my marriage doesn’t become an afterthought, and to make sure our kids aren’t just put in front of a screen. It’s a time when I am not going to get much writing done. But it’s not permanent. I will get back to that passion He gave me.

For you it might be a time to acquaint yourself with your new baby, to adjust as a bigger family. It might be a time to say goodbye to a family member who has departed. It might be a time to meet new friends, get to know your new church family, or new neighbors. But we have to realize that when it is a time for something it is also not a time for something else. For me it is not a time for writing. For you it might not be a time to work full-time, to homeschool, to learn a new instrument, to expand your family, to travel. But God made the seasons for a reason. The seasons of nature, and the seasons of our lives. So, be encouraged that seasons are never permanent. There is always another change ahead.

So, what about this blog? It will keep going. I just won’t post as much as I had originally planned. And I don’t believe in posting just to post; it has to mean something, be important, relevant. So, when I have something I really need to share with all my fellow kid lit fans, I’ll definitely post.
